Summer is here but we have been experiencing June Gloom. It is better than to be too hot or having floods like other places. We hope this finds all of you in good spirits and good health.
We have been celebrating our 65th anniversary ever since we left on April 23rd for our trip to Norway, via New York. Because of the volcano ash we didn't know until the last minute if we were really getting to go. We flew on United Airlines and when we got off the plane we were given a bottle of champagne. Our two nights in New York gave us a chance to take a tour of the big city. We left our hotel at 9:30 in the morning and did not get back until 7:30. We sure saw all there was to see including staying out of Obama's way as he was there too. Thank goodness he left so we could get out to view the Statue of Liberty. The other big thing happening in the big city was the NFL draft so traffic was a problem at times. Our last stop was Times Square. By then it was 6p.m. We were told we had an hour to look around. By then we were getting tired so I said to Ange: "there is a sports bar over there across the street." That is where we headed, sat at the bar, had a delightful bar lady that served us each two scotch on the rocks. When the bill came it was $10.00. Where else in N.Y. can you get drinks like that at that price but on your 65th anniversary. When we got back to the hotel we had the bottle of champagne with our dinner and no corking fee. We were treated royally on Lufthansa air lines with champagne, red roses for each and gourmet chocolate candies. We enjoyed our two nights in Bergen even though it did rain but when we got on the ship the next day it was sunshine until we hit the artic circle. Then we had a little rain and snow. We did get up as far as the Russian border and back to Bergen. This was a very relaxing trip with beautiful snow scape scenery on the fjords. Our pictures do not do it justice. Of course on our actual anniversary date of May 6th we were given a beautiful cake and the waitresses danced around with sparklers. Our tour guide gave us a very lovely illustrated book of trolls. Our last day in Bergen the sun was out and many cafe's and bars outside, crowded with people enjoying the warm weather. Our flight back took us three hours longer because we had to go around the ash. On our flight back to L.A. we were given a bottle of chardonnay. Our celebration couldn't have been any nicer. We still celebrated after we got home as some of our ski friends gave us a dinner party. I think we are still celebrating.
The rest of the family are doing fine. Brianna is due on the 20th which is coming up shortly. They are ready for that little girl and so are we. Marla Sue spent a week with us after we got home so she could go to one of Brianna's showers. It is going to be a very well dressed girl. Danielle is working as a waitress, saving her money so she can go to Europe for six months in August. David has been laid up with a detached retina. He had laser treatment but still has to be very careful and cannot work. Marie's dad had the same thing years ago and we found out it can be heredity. If it doesn't clear up soon he will have to have surgery. It is not any fun. The rest of us seem to be doing all right.
We are sorry we are missing the Solari reunion but give our love to everyone and have a wonderful time.
